The Noble Visage of a Death-Row Prisoner

There is a horrendous story behind the arrest and execution of Seyyed Muhammad (Kiyan) Husseini, born in 1982, who was sent to the gallows for Zhina (Mahsa Amini) Movement at midnight, on Jan. 7, 2023, following charges and a fabricated case of “Corruption on the Earth;” a story over which the motherland of Iran would mourn for many years to come; Muhammad lived in such a solitude that, after his execution, the only ones left to speak of his innocence, philanthropy, and honor were his prison-mates. He had lost both parents long time ago and was not in much contact with the rest of the family. He was a simple laborer of an aviculture in Ghazvin, called “Morghak,” with a salary below the poverty line, a tenant of a rental place located in Kamal’Shahr, Karaj. He had no one to even transfer some money for him to the prison to cover his most basic needs. He was the second defendant in the case of the murder of Rohollah Ajimiyan, a suppression agent belong to the basiji plainclothes, and was severely tortured in the course of his persecutions and forced to make false confession against himself. His cell-mates disclosed that despite resisting vehemently against the relentless barbarism of his torturers, they got to deceive him into making confession in order to get sentence communication. According to the regime-affiliated sources, Muhammad was tracked and arrested two days after the 40th day anniversary of one of the young protesting women killed by the regime agents, Hadis Najafi, yet, his cell-mates noted that he had been arrested the same night by the security forces raiding his living place. His honor and delight was martial arts from among which he had received honorary rewards in such sports like Kung Fu and Wushu and provided training courses free of charge for children in need. He used to collect and keep martial sword at home which was later introduced as weapons of offense at court. It is a sob story, his agonies and torture from the time of arrest to the end, as if a horrifying silhouette of pain and loneliness of all people of this country, the people who, relentlessly, are put to death over and over again, day in and day out, torn between the misery and despotism at home and the betrayal and indifference of the international community; Muhamamd has thus been put to demise many a time and day after day; While transferring him to the detention center, they emptied five calibers of shocker on his lonely body. During the 65 days of his detention, until his execution, his ribs got broken and his arm dislocated; “His tale was all that of woe, of torture, battery with blindfolded eyes and tied hands and feet, of a kick in the head, of concussion, of iron rod beating on his soles and shocker on various parts of his body, a man whose confessions were all taken by torture and thus of no legal legitimacy whatsoever,” tweeted His elected legal representative, Ali Sharifzadeh, after having met him at Ghezelhesar Prison. He had wept throughout all his meetings with his lawyer and frequently repeated that he had knifed down nobody. Seyyed (as called by his friends and cell-mates) was filled the force of life, hoping for his innocence to be proved and his freedom to come at hand, having said to his cell-mates, that his sentence would be communicated, but that it would not matter anyway even if it did not and if he would be faced with execution, as, in his view, it was a price to pay for his country. On the Wednesday that the news of his execution along with Muhammad Mehdi Karami (the first defendant of the same case) was released, his cell-mates decide to do civil disobedience and go on hunger strike and boycott buying prison telephone card and shout slogan, but a day after that, Iraj Fattahi, prisoner head, told him that his execution sentence had been put to halt and its official news would be released on Saturday or Sunday, asking him to calm his cell-mates down. Not just for his own sake, but also out of the hope of the communication of Muhammad Mehdi Karami’s sentence, who was the youngest in this case as well, he pacifies the cell atmosphere. Yet, on Friday morning, the prison authorities conspire and take Muhammad Mehdi and Seyyed out of their cell and later the obnoxious news comes out that they did not even wait for the regular early morning execution hour and sent these two noble human beings to the gallows just about an hour after midnight. In a judicial system in which political executions have, no doubt, a class nature, Seyyed Muhamamd Husseini dedicated all his empty-handed-ness and solitude to this country and stepped towards the gallows, sacrificing himself for his country. From the very first day, wherever the state could not manage to bring bodies into submission or hide behind censorship in its vicious cycle of violence, it has gone after their annihilation, ignorant of the fact that the names remaining of these bodies would be frequently voiced and multiplied, creating new foams of resistance. As did the physical annihilation of Zhina (Mahsa Amini) result in her name turning into the code of Woman, Life, Freedom uprising, the state-murder of Muhammad Husseini, too, will turn his name into a symbol of liberality, nobility, and resistance of the nameless wretched of the earth who have felt the blade of all state discriminations on their throat.
