Shilan Kurdistani

IWAC – Shilan Kurdistani, a Kurdish translator, women’s rights activist and member of the Zhivano Women’s Association, a resident of Sanandaj. According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, this translator was arrested by the security forces in Sanandaj on October 23, 2022, during the nationwide uprising of “Women, Life, Freedom,” and after two weeks, she was temporarily released from the Sanandaj Youth Detention Center on bail. Then, in February/March of the same year, the first branch of Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Saeedi, sentenced her to 7 months in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime” and to 2 years and 9 months of prison on the charge of “membership in the illegal group of Zhivano Women’s Association.” Finally, Shilan Kurdistani was sentenced to 40 months of imprisonment on 26 March, 2023. This sentence is suspended for three years.
